Team Uganda 2007

Uganda 2007 Was a Big Success!

/files/missions and membership photos/Uganda 2007 updates page/DSCN3906.JPG10,000 miles and 8 time zones away is the continent of Africa. It is made up of the Sahara Desert to the north ( it took us 2 hours at 500 mph to fly across it) and rain forest and jungle in the middle and high desert and savannah to the south. Uganda is right on Lake Victoria in the lush fertile part of Africa. We were almost directly on the equator in a land ripe with crops, vegetables and tropical fruit. Uganda is called, “the Pearl of Africa. ”Our team had studied the culture and the lessons prepared just for Ugandan villagers to understand the Bible. They are an oral society so our teams taught villagers about Christ by telling the stories in the Bible and teaching them how to tell the stories to other villagers. Nine villages had a Bible study all week with our team and Hermitage Hills Baptist Church from Nashville. It is hoped these village Bible studies will turn into new church plants. We had a celebration as all 9 villages came together to thank God for the 22 new believers who came and were baptized. Also, our team ministered to over 120 AIDS victims and assisted giving out mosquito nets, antibiotics, and vitamin B supplements. AIDS has devoured Uganda where 50% of the population is now under 18 years of age. Your dollar a day to missions allows our church to go. Are you giving? Join today in the lobby or on-line. Is God tapping you on the shoulder to go? give...or to go with us?
Uganda Baptist Seminary: Training Baptist Pastors
In 1988 this wonderful SBC ministry began investing in Uganda men to train as “equippers” or we would say pastors. The students must have references from their local church to even be considered for admittance. The students are on campus in classes for 3 weeks every 3 months and graduate in 3 years. God is using UBS to equip churches and believers to grow in the Lord and reach others for Christ.  The school is blessed to have over 200 students being taught by SBC missionary faculty and national Ugandan faculty, as well.  UBS students baptized over 1300 new believers and have begun 12 new churches in the first 3 months of 2007 alone. Pray for UBS faculty and students in Uganda.

Doug Pacas began to play an upbeat song of worship on the keyboard leading the folks to a time of worship and praise. These veteran missionaries clapped and raised hands of praise to the Lord for who He is. Twice a day Doug led worship singing in english which was a treat to the missionaries. They came to the conference this year physically and spiritually spent. The past year had been brutal for some as illnesses like malaria had taken a toll. Some had faced difficult ministry where they served. The region had seen quite a few missionaries come off the field temporarily, but some for good. So, the week came at a good time. Worship, studying God’s Word, discussion, and fellowship began to lift spirits and help them serve God with fresh vision. The Lord’s Supper celebrated on the last day was a sweet time of consecration as we prayed over their leaders. Thanks IBC!!! If you have not joined Dollar/Day Please help us reach our world. The Devil Fought this Trip

There had never been such a struggle to get a trip off the ground like this trip to Uganda in March. The host missionary had taken on supervisory leadership responsibilities for a group of 28 missionaries in 3 countries. He was busy and tired too. Two days before leaving Randy Fuson, the team leader for the week one team, came down with pneumonia and was very ill, so he was out. Carol Hand, a women’s teacher for the week 2 conference team had to fly to Ohio because her mom had to have emergency surgery. Tanisha Brown /files/missions and membership photos/Uganda 2007 updates page/uganda 011.jpgwas snagged in traffic and missed her flight with team one. God blessed and she flew out the next day just fine. God blessed beyond what we could ask or think. You were praying!
