Jane and her Mom

Jane's Story

Information concerning Jane (not her real name):

  • Jane was born on May 11, 2007 at Woman’s Hospital.  She weighed 2 pounds 4 ounces.
  • She was born at 29 weeks (or 10 weeks early) due to Mommie having severe preeclampsia.
  • Jane’s main goal in the NICU was to gain weight and breathe without assistance.  The saying in the NICU is to be able to “suck, swallow and breathe”.
  • She remained in the NICU for almost 2 months – she was released on July 9, 2007.   Jane weighed 4 pounds 13 ounces when she came home.
  • Jane came on a heart/apnea monitor in order for us to continue to see how her heart rate and breathing were doing.  Her last day on the monitor was November 12, 2007.
  • Today Jane is great!  She weighs 11 pounds 4 ounces and is 7 months old.  She is rolling over, eating oatmeal twice a day, reaching and grabbing for things, is strong, ready to sit up, talks to us, smiles and is such a happy baby.  There are no severe health issues with Jane.  Her vision, hearing and neurological appointments are positive and they foresee no problems, but like to follow up on her because she was premature. She does attend physical therapy once a month to assist us on what she should be doing at her adjusted age (4 ½ months).  They feel she should be where she needs to be by this summer.  We are just grateful and blessed that she is doing so well on her journey.
