Generations FAQsWhat Is Generations?
Scripture is clear that every believer has spiritual obligations to his/her current and future generations. Every believer is instructed to tell others about God; His greatness, His commandments, His mighty acts throughout history and His saving grace to all who will come to Him. Our theme verse for this project is Psalm 145:4:“Generation after generation stands in awe of your work, each one tells of Your mighty acts.”
There are many ways each generation proclaims the mighty acts of God. Certainly we are expected to be faithful and obedient to effectively tell others about God during our lives on earth. Another way is by making sacrifices that not only benefit those alive today but will facilitate others in future generations coming to know Christ as their personal Savior.
Who Benefits From Generations?
The Generations Project facilities provide much for every age group to be excited about. Just like the church today, these new facilities are family-focused. These facilities will allow specialized space for our preschool and elementary aged children, as well as our middle and high school students. This will free up space that is critically needed now for Adult Bible Study groups. The new sports ministry provides another venue for family participation and outreach. The new commons area also will add a great fellowship environment for our entire congregation. While all will benefit to varying degrees from these new facilities today, the long term benefits to the next and future generations is an essential part of the plan.
What Are We Building?
1. A two-story Preschool and Children's Building, approximately 28,000 square feet; 18 classrooms per floor; a two-story indoor play area; 240-seat state-of-the-art worship area for Children’s Ministry.
2. Approximately 7800 square feet of Commons Area and a new front entrance, with drive-through canopy for easy access in inclement weather. The commons will accommodate a new bookstore, coffee shop, welcome desk, casual furniture, etc. and will offer a great environment for wedding and other receptions or fellowship events.
3. Renovation of the Bain Auditorium for Student Ministry, Sports Ministries and banquet area.
4. Sports fields to accommodate softball, t-ball, and soccer.
5. Additional parking east of the new Children’s Building and Hope Building and south of the main entrance.
How Will We Pay For It?
We are asking all our members to pray about making a three year commitment toward the cost of the project, which is estimated to be $12.5 - $15 million. Project costs beyond these commitments will be financed over an extended period.
Can We Afford It?
Previous experience, as well as comparisons with other churches our size, tell us that Istrouma can afford a debt service of approximately 25% of our annual operating budget without compromising ministry, missions, staff, or operating costs. Our leadership is committed to that formula in order to protect our church financially.
What Is the Time Frame?
1. Our design/contractor firm, Myrick, Gorosky and Associates, Inc. will finish construction drawings the end of October and solicit bids, then submit to Istrouma a guaranteed maximum price (GMP).
2. Istrouma leadership will determine affordability of the GMP and proceed with the project if feasible within our guidelines.
3. The entire construction period will last approximately 1 year.
